The idea was born, as so often happens, from an emotion, from a vision that sets a mental journey in motion, from an analogy between the “waste” that results from working marble on one side and the tusks of an elephant on the other: a eureka moment that marries the two with the sensibility of Marba Marmi, which gave life to the “Save An Elephant” project. Save an elephant: choose a marble tusk. The aim is to promote an alternative trade in elephant tusks. Marble tusks and no longer ivory. Unique, precious pieces made by hand, in Carrara marble. Works as a “positive” and harmless metaphor, tusks that replace the originals in value, uniqueness and rarity. Sculptures that become witnesses of elephants: imposing and solid architectures of the savannah that, like pillars, hold up an ecosystem. Symbolic tusks that contain in their form, material, size and texture their uniqueness. Marble tusks, numbered and catalogued. A grand project that aims to develop a worldwide “trade” in elephant tusks, in marble, as a symbol of precious yet “harmless” trophies.
